Bruce or anybody - i've got to lose some weight. i've completely gotten out of shape since i moved into my house. any ideas on the best way to shed weight? i know about the paleo, but as far as specific foods, etc, what do i eat? how did you lose weight?
The only thing I would add to the following is that you CAN NOT over eat. Spread 1700-1900 calories over 3 meals and 2-3 snacks per day and (with intensity in the gym and some patience) you'll drip weight quick, and get stronger.

By keeping the training and workouts constantly varied (if not random), using functional movement and raising the level of intensity, we improve in all 10 characteristics of fitness. No one knows what the workout will be until they walk into our gym. This keeps you from being bored and repeating the same routine day after day, week after week. Routine is our enemy.
However, without a sound diet and nutrition plan, no fitness program on Earth will be worth anything nor will you reach your true potential. The success our members achieve is 90% due to the way they eat. Diet and nutrition is our foundation in this hierarchy.
How can you begin a healthy diet without the hassle? In a nutshell, do the following in this order:
"Eat meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and NO SUGAR."
Begin with that, then research the Zone and Paleo diets and you will be on your way to elite wellness and fitness.
Brumm- you and I both need to go ahead and bite the bullet and order ourselves stud bars. That, a 24/30" box, and 53lb kb and I'll be done with my home gym.
Brumm- I went on paleo diet with Zone percentages May 2009. Started around 215 lbs and I am now fluctuating between 178-182. I was getting off about a pound every 3 days for the first month, and now about a pound per week. I shoot for exactly 1500 calories daily with about 300 breakfast, 300 lunch, 300 afternoon snack, 600 dinner. I try to get 50g fat, 150g carb, 100g protein. Be careful with nuts, you will get too much fat %. For protein I have been sticking to tuna, beef jerky, turkey, eggs. For carbs- apples, oranges, bananas, dried fruit. I log everything on the "Lose It" app on my iPhone and that has helped tremendously to keep up with the percentages.
This was the first time I've done Angie 100 pullups, then 100 pushups, then 100 situps, 100 squats. I've always split it up into sets of 10 reps and rotated through. This was dramatically harder.

This WOD was way harder than I thought it would be!
Brum, I would recomend you start Zoning. If you can weigh and measure for two weeks you will develop an eye for blocks.
I've got more info on The Zone than any one person needs. Email me at bryceparkerharrison@gmail.com and I'll help you get started.
